Images of US 301 on Maryland's Eastern Shore

Photos by Rick Darke

The Eastern Shoreway is a 45-mile stretch of US 301 through Maryland’s Eastern Shore from Queenstown north to the Maryland/Delaware state line traversing farm fields, meadows, woodlands, and the headwaters of two major tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay, the Chester and Sassafras rivers. This tapestry of agricultural land is woven into rich natural open space that is an hour’s drive from Philadelphia, Baltimore and the nation’s capital.

Under the leadership of Adkins Arboretum, the Eastern Shoreway Alliance, a consortium of individuals and agencies working to preserve the Eastern Shoreway, envisions a special driving experience that is educational and memorable inspiring those who travel the Eastern Shoreway to preserve and protect it. The Shoreway will be a model for 21st century highways and America's special places.
